About Us
Relax and unwind with family and friends at this gracious “old Lady” in a quiet and peaceful farm setting.
Built as a Church of England mission in 1884 and situated 1, 538m above sea level this beautiful old stone building which once housed Bulwer’s first Post Office still stands. Unfortunately, in 1977 a devastating fire destroyed the roof and internal finishes however the 400mm thick stone walls stood firm.
The original old farmhouse has a large lounge with a fireplace, a games verandah, a TV lounge with full DSTV bouquet, a large dining room, a bring your own pub with fireplace for those chilly evenings and a communal braai area.
For five generations the Hill family have loved and owned Ashtonvale. Bought in 1958 by Jack and Kelly together with Kelly’s parents, Warren and Eileen Bradfield, they moved from the Copperbelt in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) with Kelly’s brother Tom and two of their four children, Russell and Janet, to begin their dream of owning a guest farm. Michael and Sean were born after the move.
Sadly, time doesn’t stand still, and changes take place, but Ashtonvale is still called home and the place where happy children can run free.
Meals may no longer be served, and the dinner gong is silent, but kitchens have been added to many of the rooms to enable self-catering. Don’t forget the good old South African braai for those lazy warm afternoons.
There are numerous options – family cottages, self-catering cottages and single or double rooms using a communal kitchen. Ashtonvale is ideal for family gatherings, family holidays and weekend getaways, church outings and camps, group celebrations, school or club groups
